How long does a firewall come in affect?

What port number you have opened ? Any service listening on that port ?

Did you open the port on the server itself? You going through Kimsufi, SYS, or OVH directly? What OS are you using? It'll make it easier to help you if we know this information.

If you're using a Linux flavor and open the port through your server's firewall (iptables) then you'll need to reload the firewall rules for the changes to take effect. For example, CentOS uses FirewallD, so doing the reload is done by issuing the following command: firewall-cmd --reload (commands is different based on flavor of linux and different firewalls software (apf for example), etc).
