If you have installed VNC and configured everything correctly, you'll want to use a VNC viewer instead (which can be downloaded from https://www.realvnc.com/download/viewer/) or any one of the remote desktop applications available for Linux depending on what you installed. (Most people install VNC though).

I assume you need to install a desktop environment separately, never use arch.
I had tried TigerVNC yesterday and had the same issue but I didn't realize I needed to run the vncserver on my VPS first before connecting. Now that I have it properly configured and it works perfectly! Thanks guys!

Hello, I am able to connect to my new VPS (Arch Linux) using OVH's KVM through their website and using command line SSH, however OVH's KVM doesn't work well with my low res computer because a bunch of nested scroll bars make it very cumbersome to use the VPS.

I was able to set up the VPS for what I need (window manager, etc), but I can't figure out how to use Microsoft Remote Desktop (for the Mac) to connect to the vps. I do:

ip: xx.xx.xx.xx
user: root
pw: password

and I get "connection refused," then I tried to connect through the ssh port (22)

ip: xx.xx.xx.xx:22
user: root
pw: password

and get "connection reset by peer." I've also tried to ssh into the X environment:

ssh -X root@xx.xx.xx.xx

and get "Error: no display specified"

It doesn't matter how exactly I connect, ssh or through other software, but I would like to be able to access a GUI to make it easier to debug my setup.

Thanks.
