2016 Server Range Problems

2015-12-02, 11:27 PM
Just found another thread with same problem..

look like problem with network card not supported by Stock CentOS kernel

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection X552/X557-AT 10GBASE-T
03:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection X552/X557-AT 10GBASE-T
I too got this Network card

EDIT: On googling found out this card is not supported by stock kernel, we need kervel 4.2+ for this card to work https://major.io/2015/09/28/first-th...ro-5028d-t4nt/

The downside here is that the X557 PHY ID wasn’t added until Linux 4.2.
EDIT 2 Installed Kernel 4.3 from elrepo repo. Now eth0 shows as working, but can't connect to net.. Maybe i should try compile kernel from source and see if that works.

Why yum install kernal not updating grub.conf in OVH server, i had to manually edit grub.conf to boot into stock kernel.

I have one HOST-32L and SP-64 servers. On both servers, i can't get custom partition working properly on CentOS 7. The partition i tried was

1 primary Ext4 / - 1 20.0 GB 40.0 GB
2 primary Ext4 /var - 1 30.0 GB 60.0 GB
3 primary Swap swap - - 2 x 512.0 MB 1.0 GB
4 logical Ext4 /usr - 1 30.0 GB 60.0 GB
5 logical Ext4 /home - 1 1.9 TB 3.8 TB
On CentOS 7, it fail after reboot.

Same partition work on CentOS 6.

I noticed, i have to use OVH kernel. Just now i finished installing CentOS 6.7 on HOST-32L with above partition (I wanted CentOS 7, but that fail with above partition), during install, i am forced to use OVH kernel. After install, i installed stock kernal, edited grub.conf, rebooted. Server boots on new kernal (i can see on IPMI), but eth0 do not come up.

Is this the reason why OVH force me to use OVH kernel ?
