2014: not simply a new server line, but an improved OVH

2014-01-15, 07:38 PM
Here we are!

We took several months to revisit our business model to make sure we can fulfill our mission: delivering infrastructures for your projects.

You'll see many changes in our new 2014 dedicated servers offers, starting with a separation between the entry-level servers, with little option (the SoYouStart brand we’re introducing) and high-end, fully loaded servers on OVH.com targeting horsepower and mission critical environments.

OVH.COM's servers will be “all inclusive” when it comes to options and will target 3 types of uses: Enterprise, Hosting and Infrastructure.

These servers are customizable in term of hardware and features.
They include what we were previously offered as 'extended functionalities', with a price range starting at $109/month.

Why 3 lines for 3 uses?

This is not a strict segmentation but a vision as follow:
(in other words, Enterprise servers can be used for hosting if they better fit your needs)

- Web, Email, Intranet, Extranet
- Collaborative Tools
- More generally, large all purpose servers

- Hosting platform
- Virtualization
- Servers pooling

- Specialized Servers (databases, storage, front ...)
- Private multi-datacenter network (virtual rack / vRack)
- Customizable Servers

Technically speaking, and to (over-)simplify:
ENTERPRISE = 2 times more RAM
HOSTING = free fail-over IPs
INFRASTRUCTURE = private network included

IPs ...for ENTERPRISE Servers

The IP exhaustion within ARIN leads us to charge IPs monthly for 2014 servers.
On the public network, you can point up to 16 Fail-over IPs (individual or in small blocks of 4, 8 or 16 IPs) and up to 256 IP blocks (32, 64, 128, 256 ).
Cost will vary from $1.50 to $3 per month and per IP depending of the block size.

...for HOSTING servers

16 Fail-over IP are included for free and, depending on the server, up to 128 IP block will also be included free of charge.
If you need more IPs, they will be charged in blocks of at least 32 for $1.50 per IP and per month.

...for servers INFRASTRUCTURE

as for the Enterprise servers for the public network.
For the private network (vRack), the number of blocks and fail-over IPs is not limited. The price is $1.50 per month and per IP.

Disks and RAID are now customizable. By default, servers will come with SATA3 drives (or SAS) RAID SOFT, but you can optionally get:
- Hardware RAID (SATA / SAS or SSD) with the LSI MegaRAID 9271 CacheVault
- Soft Hybrid RAID (SATA / SAS SSD +)
- RAID Hard Hybrid (SATA / SAS + SSD) with the LSI MegaRAID 9271 CacheVault + + Fastpath CacheCade (depending on the server's configuration)

As for INFRASTRUCTURE HG and HG BIG servers, you can choose your CPU, RAM and all kinds of disks combinations. Design it and we'll built / rack / online it for you in no time.

You'll see performance improvements in the 2014 new lines of server, and a price tag drop of about 30% while including by default more features.
In return, we have introduced a setup fee that we are happy to waive if you contract for one year.
After 1 year, upon renewal of your server, you'll get one free month for a renewal of six months and three months free for a 12 months renewal.

Some examples:

EG-32 servers that includes vRack and KVM / IP starts at $109/month
SP-64 servers with 4 cores / 8 threads and 64 GB of RAM starts at $109 / month
HOSTING servers are based on an AMD Opteron CPU offering 6, 8 or 16 cores.
Xeon E5-16xx and 26xx processors E5-version 2 are 30% more efficient than the previous generation.

But sometimes, you might be on a restricted budget to create a Proof Of Concept or bootstrap a startup.
In this case, check out our SoYouStart servers on which emphasis was placed on the quality / price ratio : we'll let you do the sysadmin when it comes to software support and we'll do the hardware support.

A line of OVH servers in BHS for students to play wit.. I mean, to learn.
Over-clocked SoYouStart servers for online gamers (i7-47xxK-ish)
A range of backup servers full of 4TB and 6TB disk (!) plus SSD for caching.
Servers specially designed for the BIG-DATA.

It's just the beginning of 2014…
